(1) a solemn usually formal calling upon God or a god to witness to the truth of what one says or to witness that one sincerely intends to do what one says (2) : a solemn attestation of the truth or inviolability of one's words ?
so i guess everyone took an oath of some sort when they joined their frat/sorority? i did! that definition is kind of scary though...it sounds so PERMANENT and BINDING. whats even more scary is how lightly people take their oaths. in the Delta oath we promise to uphold our sororities values and be women of high moral character. i know for a fact that some people need to go back and re-learn their sorority or fraternity oath because the things they do in the name of their organization could not possibly have been part of their oath. a lot of times you have to step back and look at what your organization is doing and think "would our founders be proud of my chapter today?"
DOCTORS take the Hippocratic Oath...believed to be written by Hipocrates, a GREEK and father of western medicine. They have to swear before God to ethically practice medicine. They have to swear to treat their patients kindly, prevent illness, and remember that they too are human and are not to play God. just imagine how horrible it would be if doctors and healthcare professionals threw all the things they swore to out the window and did whatever they wanted...what kind of healthcare system would we have?!? duh, the one we have
Doesnt each president have to take an oath when they are sorn into office? I'm certain Bill Clinton did and i'm just as certain that in his oath, sleeping with interns was not inlcuded as one of the values the president should uphold.

so in conclusion, our society for some reason has thrown "oath" to the wayside and decided that it doesnt mean a damn thing. and we're all guilty of this. me too. i know i havent done everything in my power to uphold my sorority's oath. i had to really try hard to remeber all of it since its been so long since i memorized it. as i recited it to myself i realized that we all probably need to recite it at least once a day so we can be reminded of our purpose.
ARE YOUR FOUNDERS PROUD OF YOU???
